Dr. Jean S. Colasante, died peacefully in her sleep at Dunwoody Village on Christmas day. December 25, 2019. She was 93.

Jean Renee Smith was born in Lock Haven, PA  and graduated with honors from Lock Haven High school in 1944. Though shy by nature she was gifted by nature with a superb intellect and an ambitious spirit. She Graduated from Temple University with a degree in science and literature in 1948. She went on to achieve a dental degree from Temple University College of dentistry in 1953, as the only woman in a class of 130. She met and married Anthony Daniel Colasante, a medical student at Temple, in 1949 and together raised six children.

"Dr. Jean" Colasante practiced dentistry beside her husband's Medicine practice, on Fairmount Street in Bethlehem, PA for 35 years while raising their children. She was an early exemplar of the career woman with enormous family responsibilities, who carried off the feat without batting an eye, giving every impression of contentment in the achievement. "Dr. Jean" was a long time member of the Lehigh Valley Dental society, The Philadelphia Dental Society and served as an early president of the American Association of Women Dentists. A devout christian, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bethlehem for 28 years, attending their organ and choral concerts which uplifted her spiritually. She loved the Lehigh Valley as a cultural center for the arts. She attended Bach Choir and Muhlenberg College concerts regularly and took continuing education classes in theology, literature, and history at Lehigh University and other venues with enthusiasm.

Dr. Jean is predeceased by her father, Russell L. Smith, her mother, Ona Bridge Smith, her brother, Karl G. Smith, her husband, Dr. Anthony Daniel Colasante, and her daughter, Gina Antonia Colasante. She is survived by her five children, Blaise, Carmine, David, Ona, and Amy: by 15 great grandchildren; and by 20 great grandchildren.

Dr. Jean requested memorial contributions in her name to Bethlehem Public Library, 115 W. Church Street Bethlehem, PA 18018
