Alexandra Davies Dewey, 88, died October 10 surrounded by her sons at Paoli Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born January 6, 1934 in New York City, the daughter of Diana Dodge Davies and Frederick Martin Davies, Jr.
‘Sandra’ graduated from the Madeira School in 1951, and Bryn Mawr College in 1955. She served as an interpreter for the State Department in Vietnam and the Philippines from 1956-1958. In 1961 she married Paul Carpenter Dewey ('Carpie') in Whitemarsh, PA. Sandra was an avid equestrian and a lover of animals. She was known for her gentleness, patience and uncanny memory. She was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Widener.
Sandra was predeceased by her husband, and her sisters Diana Kendall and Linda Jones. Sandra is survived by her sons, Paul Dewey, Jr. (Alexandra), and Frederick Dewey (Joan), and her grandchildren, Olivia, O’Neill, and Riley, her sister Sheila Thayer and 16 nieces and nephews.
